Course Offerings & Progressive Curriculum

Classes generally meet once a week and run continually throughout the academic year organized by terms running approximately 10-12 weeks in length. Our curriculum and projects are designed to present a progressing level of skill and challenge so that students can gain the most out of our program. Our small class size and individualized instruction allows you to join at any time********.

PreSchool Monart

 3 - 4 Years Old
A class for 3 and 4 year olds that encourages visual perception and eye hand coordination skills. Students will learn the visual recognition of the 5 Elements of Shape and how to use them in the recognition of the Alphabet, the Numbering system, the Drawing of their own name, and simplistic drawings of creatures from nature. Games that incorporate the use of crafts, music, and movement will teach proficiency in following directions and achieving pre-drawing and reading readiness skills.

Getting Ready I

 4 - 6 Years Old
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of a 4 and 5 year old. Students work on their ability to recognize the elements of shape and combine them in drawing the creatures from nature and objects from their world.

Getting Ready II

 4 - 6 Years Old
A class for 4-6 year olds who have mastered the ability to recognize the elements of shape and have achieved a skill level that allows them to make independent choices in composition and background ideas. Geared for the student who has learned to focus and concentrate for the one hour class, without an undue need for individual attention.

Parents Night out!

 Camp (5-12)
Enjoy a few hours off every 3rd Friday of the month! Bring your kids to Monart for a Camp style evening from 5:30PM-8PM... Kids will get a Monart drawing lesson for the first hour, followed by a pizza dinner, then fun crafts and activities for the remaining time. Parents - If your child has food allergies, you will need to provide their meal. PLEASE NO NUT OR PEANUT PRODUCTS.

Basic Drawing I

 6 - 8 Years Old
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of a 6 and 7 year old. Students quickly learn to recognize the elements of shape and are introduced to various choices of how to interpret the lesson, in their own creative rendering of the subject and background.

Basic Drawing II

 6 - 8 Years Old
A class for 6-8 year olds who have mastered the ability to make independent choices in the interpretation of the lesson, show a confidence in their drawing skills, and can color in with control. Geared for the student who has learned to focus and concentrate for the one hour class and shows the ability to put effort into their work.

Drawing Fundamentals

 8 - 12 Years Old
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of an 8 to 12 year old. Students will learn the Elements of Shape and how to use them in creating drawings from a variety of realistic, abstract, and expressionistic styles. Lessons will introduce them to inspirations from 2-Dimensional graphic materials, 3-Dimensional objects, the human form, perspective, and proportion.

Intermediate Drawing

 8 - 12 Years Old
A class for 8-12 year olds who have achieved the skill level of working independently on projects, rarely needing a step by step demonstration by the teacher. Geared for the student who has mastered the basic skills in line, shape, proportion, perspective, and the ability to create volume through light logic, using 3 dimensional objects. Can stay focused and concentrated for a 2 hour class and is confident enough to explore various subject matter and live models with comfort.

Join Local Cartoonist, Video Game Character Creator & Animator Phillip Lane for a course in Cartooning & Animation. Half of the course will be learning how to draw your favorite cartoon and video game characters, the other half will be creating your own character and \"bringing it to life\" through animation!

Acrylic paints on Canvas

 8 - 12 Years Old
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of an 8 to 12 year old. Students will learn the Elements of Shape and how to use them in creating drawings from a variety of realistic, abstract, and expressionistic styles. In the Acrylic on Canvas version of this class, students will expand their knowledge by completing their drawings with acrylic paints.

Art of Making Books

 8 - 12 Years Old
We have taken our popular book making camp and turned it into a weekly class! Each week you will illustrate a page for your book, then create a poem or short story talking about your illustration!

Clay Modeling

 8 - 12 Years Old
Students will learn about a variety of different creatures that inhabit our planet. Then they will have fun creating some of these creatures in 3D form using polymer clay. Other additive sculpting methods will also be introduced.

Lego Animation

 8 - 12 Years Old
Learn the basics of Stop Motion Animation while also drawing and building what you drew with Legos. Join local cartoonist and animator Phillip Lane for this fun and educational course.
